How does lip stain work?

A Lip Stain is a liquid lip colour that provides an instant tint to the lips that as the product fades away the colour is left behind. As with lips stains the colour sticks around while the product texture gradually goes it is the perfect lip colour option for people who are after all day colour with perhaps a more natural result to a liquid matte lip product.

MAC Versicolour Varnish Cream Lip Stain is the ultimate fusion of gloss and stain all in one fluid formula that melts onto lips for full-on glossy shine. Just one stroke provides medium coverage, lasting colour (8 hours) and immediate lasting shine (8 hours) with a ‘barely there’ feel. It’s jelly-like texture features a unique blend of balmy emollients and fresh, gelled waters that create a flexible mesh that comfortably wraps the lips, coating them with full force colour and a super glossy shine. A combination of stains and water soluble pigments provide a stained-glass or cellophane-like effect on the lips. The perfect blend of film formers and volatile oils give enhanced adherence that’s comfortable, flexible and lightweight. It features an extra plush, slant-tip applicator for the ultimate, luxurious application.

Popular ways of wearing this kind of product have come from beauty trends from East Asia, using brighter tones in the centre of the lip only, for a lip flush that feels relaxed and modern. It’s a great way to wear bolder lip colours without it being too in your face. This in mind lips stains are also a really good option for softer and bolder shades alike for anyone after lip colour that stays put. Later on in the day to refresh the shine and hydration that you initially get from the versicolour stains, you can always apply the lip conditioner, or mac clear lipglass.

PRO TIP:
I love using versicolour stains on the cheeks as a long lasting blush colour that also adds a glass like glow to the cheeks. Sheering out the colour on the cheeks with the 139s Tapered face blending brush, in the matching shade that you use on the lips will add balance to your look and take the fuss out of deciding which blush goes with which lip colour.
