How to best exfoliate your face?

In order to maintain healthy skin that glows, exfoliating is important. Without it skin can look and feel dry, dull or tired. Using exfoliators to remove dead/dry skin that accumulate on the surface not only improves the texture, fine lines, and overall illumination to the face, but also increases the ability for your products to penetrate on a deeper level.

How often you include exfoliation in your skin care routine depends on your skin type, dryer skin types may need to exfoliate more often but exfoliation also important for those with oilier skin types to help prevent congestion.

There are two ways in which you can include exfoliation into your routine, physical exfolitation and chemical exfoliation:
  • Physical exfoliation can be achieved with wash cloths, cleansing brushes and gritty textured cleansers, I love to include physical exfoliation in my routine, MAC Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator contains natural Volcanic Ash and sugar crystals to cleanse and exfoliate the skin. Volcanic Ash is made from finely ground volcanic rock. The resulting clay is mineral rich and helps to absorb excess oils from the skin. Consider it like a skin polish for all skin types that buffs away the skin surface to reveal a soft and smooth finish.
  • Chemical Exfoliants dissolve surface dryness and even though it sounds more aggressive, it can be a much gentler way to remove dead skin. MAC Lightful C + Coral Grass Softening Lotion’s water like formula absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it more refined and brightened. You can spritz the face or a cotton pad. It plumps up the surface of the skin and melts away any textured or flakey areas, perfect for a makeup free glow and an essential step in my opinion of any makeup preparation.

It’s important to not leave your lips out of your exfoliating routine, especially if you are a lipstick wearer. MAC Lip Scrubtious is a sugar-based exfoliator that helps to gently buff away dry, flaky skin, leaving lips looking and feeling softer and smoother. The formula is enhanced with nourishing conditioners that leave lips feeling soft and smooth.
