How do I apply foundation?

The purpose of foundation is to make your skin look totally flawless, with the perception of flawless skin differing from person to person. Some people prefer their foundation to be completely natural, almost as if you are not wearing any makeup at all, whilst other might prefer a more medium to full coverage. You can apply foundation in a couple of differnet ways.

For a smooth, even finish...
  • Use a MAC 170 Synthetic Rounded Slant Brush, which has densely packed, luxuriously soft synthetic fibres which makes this brush ideal for applying, buffing out and blending thick creams and liquids. This brush can mean the difference between a completely flawless face and an unpolished look.
  • Start by applying some beautiful MAC Strobe Cream Peachlite which is a great universal tone.
  • Then pour a small amount of MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation onto the back of your hand (a tiny drop goes a long long way!). Pat this onto your face with the brush. Foundation application can be tricky for everyone, ensuring you're blending everything smoothly if you have slightly drier skin, or making the foundation stick to if your skin is on the more oily side.
  • Making sure you've covered all those areas can be a tricky task, but by using your new bff the MAC 170 Synthetic Rounded Slant Brush life will be so much easier! If you're still finding a few troubling areas, such as any blemishes or discolouration in the skin pat on a firm favourite MAC Concealer, the Studio Fix 24-Hour Smooth Wear Concealer using a MAC 270 Synthetic Mini Rounded Slant Brush, a minature verson of the 170.
  • After you have finished applying your foundation and concealer, plus any extra products like a setting powder, bronzer, highlighter, any eye-makeup and your favourite fluttery MAC false eyelashes, spray a generous amount of the MAC Prep + Prime setting spray, Fix+ for a refreshing finish to your look! Try the Fix+ Coconut, it smells divine!

  • PRO TIP:
Always find the best light to apply your foundation in! Nobody wants a streaky or uneven foundation finish, so good lighting is a necessity. Natural daylight from a window will do the trick, and in cold winters when the sun goes down quicker and you need to get ready for a night out, a bright white light bulb in your bathroom is a great backup option. Yellow warm fluorescent lighting is to be avoided at all costs!
