INTRODUCING MACNIFICENT 7

2024 sees the return of the incredible artistry challenge MACnificent 7!!!

Each year our MAC UK and Ireland artists take part in a 7 week long competition to test their skills and creativity. MACnificent 7 showcases the exceptional level of skill our artists have here within the UK and Ireland, and celebrates the artistry heritage MAC have had for almost 40 years. Each week is hosted by a guest judge who chooses the theme and winner, resulting in 7 awe inspiring winning pieces of work. Our artists are an intergral piece of the puzzle in making mac the diverse and inclusive brand it is today.

Be sure to check out #macnificent72024 on our instagram account to see all entries across the 7 weeks.

WEEK 1: MAKEUP ICONS MADE MODERN
RYAN LEE BLAIN

I created look inspired by my favourite icon from my favourite era, Josephine Baker of the 1920s! I wanted to incorporate a more modern finish overall, with lots of shimmer on the eye and skin keeping an overall glowy look and using a more new age colour palette. Playing up the androgyny too by incorporating my moustache into 1920s styling.

WEEK 2: MAC X PRIDE X VIVA GLAM
PRECIOUS DAVIES
In a world where self-expression is celebrated, I've found that makeup stands as a powerful tool for my empowerment. Far beyond mere aesthetics, makeup has the transformative power to boost my confidence, convey my individuality, and create a sense of control over my appearance. For me, makeup is an art form—a way to experiment with colors, textures, and styles. It’s not just about covering up imperfections; it's about highlighting my strengths and showcasing my personality. A swipe of bold lipstick or a flick of eyeliner can make me feel unstoppable, ready to take on the world with a newfound sense of boldness.

WEEK 3: “I WEAR MAC”
CALLUM SUTTON

The reason why I Wear MAC all comes down to my mum. I was first inspired by makeup because of her, and she was always my biggest supporter and cheerleader in all aspects of life. I created this video telling the story of my mum and how she still inspires me in both ky personal and professional life today. MAC for my is so much more than a company I work for - it’s a community, a family of like-minded people and a home. Even in times when I thought things were too hard difficult to face, MAC showed me that I can achieve things I never thought was possible.

WEEK 4: MAC 40
GLEN EDWARDS MCGUINNESS

This week I really wanted to recreate the party energy, campery and surrealism from some of my favourite MAC campaigns, full of colour, craziness and insane props! While also wishing MAC a Happy Birthday! So I decided to go for the absolutely bonkers and kitch concept of a kids Birthday party!!

The rose tinted nostalgia of these parties makes me feel they were just colour, food, gifts and immense fun!! So I want to convey that in these images!

WEEK 5: HALLOWEEN WITH A TWIST
SOPHIE DAVIES

Here’s the world’s first makeup “Glambot”. Who will “give a glam” up appointment to your needs. Robot, cyborg, who knows?

They have all the tools, which propel out of their fingers in the blink of an eye. (No more carrying brush belts you say!) With AI being a scary topic at the moment I took a look back at early references to robots from the film ‘metropolis’ 1927, Hajime Sorayama, a Japanese illustrator who drew “sexy robots” and also designed the original Sony AIBO (robot dog) from the 90s. And Thierry mugler ‘Machinenmensch’ from 1995, recently worn by zendaya at the dune premier. It’s true what they say everything comes back around.

WEEK 6: THE TRENDSETTER
LOUISE RIDSDALE

This week I thought it would be fun to create some looks that make you look like you’ve had a heavy night, woken up in your makeup and are going out again but the reality is that you always double cleanse and prep your skin with serumizer… fake it til you make it.

I like the idea of freshly applied makeup that looks worn and “yucky”. Like those super expensive trainers that have scuffs on them, like… it’s a vibe!

WEEK 7: MUSIC TO MY EYES – VOL.2: THE REMIX
REBECCA HARRINGTON

‘Nothing is ever a setback. If anything, it just motivates you for what’s next’ - Christina Aguilera When I think of music my head goes straight to the powerhouse that is Christina Aguilera From ‘genie in the bottle’ to ‘Beautiful’ Christina had been a constant artist my whole life and was also the leading lady in my favourite film ‘Burlesque’ When I knew I wanted to base my look for this week on Christina I thought about the Bionic Album -I love the visual for this and knew I wanted to take on the challenge to recreate it
